Greetings, Aviator Families!

We officially welcomed fall to Houston this week, and we only have a few days left in the month of September.  We have kicked off our celebration of Latinx Heritage Month at YES Prep Hobby, and we are excited to continue to celebrate this month in the coming weeks. Our students have been participating in Advisory lessons and contests to share about their heritage with their fellow students.

All YES Prep Hobby students will be taking their first district-wide Common Assessments during the week of October 11th. These exams will show us what our students have learned and how we can continue to support them. Please mark your calendars to ensure that your students are present at school during this week to complete their exams.

Recently, there has been an online trend of students who are choosing to make decisions to harm school property including student restrooms. As a school community, we work hard to ensure that we have a safe and secure places in our school. Please speak with your Aviators to ensure that they are embodying our core values when they are on campus and not engaging in behaviors in the restrooms that cause damage to our school property.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and your students – we appreciate our Aviator families!

YES Prep Code of Conduct

Over the past few weeks, a social media trend called 'devious licks' has become popular nationally amongst teens. This trend encourages  students to record themselves or others participating in behaviors including vandalizing or destroying school property, or stealing items from the school or other students. Please take an opportunity to have a conversation with your student regarding this behavior, the impact it has on others and the school environment, and your expectations for them while they are at school. If students are found to participate in any behavior listed above, they will receive a consequence in alignment with the YES Prep Code of Conduct. We expect our students to model our core values of responsibly and courage to help us uphold our positive school environment. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.

Early Student Pick-Up
In order to pick up your student before dismissal time, you must have a valid ID present and the person picking up must be listed under emergency contacts for the student. Emergency contact list can be found in Skyward. Updates to this list can be made on the Back to School Forms.

Back to School Forms

If you haven’t already, please complete Back to School forms for your children. All returning and new students to YES Prep will need to complete this process. Back to School forms are available through your Skyward Family Access account by selecting the tile named Back to School Forms 21-22. You can complete these on a computer or on your mobile device via the browser (you cannot complete the forms in the Skyward app).

Student Absences and COVID Notification

Parents please notify the school when your student is out for an extended period of time either because they have tested positive for Covid-19 or is experiencing symptoms. It is our duty to notify any students who are close contacts to anyone who tests positive for COVID and we can not do so effectively if we are not notified of your child's diagnosis.

For attendance purposes, please remember to send an excuse note after your student has been absent.

Safety and Security:

we value your student’s safety, so we require them and all staff and personnel to wear a mask each day. If students do not have a mask on arriving to school, we provide them with one for the day. We also remind students to keep their mask over their mouth and nose at all times.

Timely Arrival:

All of our students begin classes at 8:30AM daily. To ensure that students receive bell-to-bell instruction for each period, please drop off your students no later than 8:25AM every morning. Students who arrive after 8:25AM must check in at the front office and receive a tardy demerit. When students hit 3 tardy demerits, they begin to earn lunch detentions. Please, help us to get students to class on time.

Student Dress Code:

While we no longer have uniforms for YES Prep students, our students are still required to follow the YES Prep Hobby Dress code. Students out of dress code will receive a consequence and parents will be called to bring a change of clothes to the school before students can enter/re-enter class.

IDS:

Please make sure your student has their ID on a Daily Bases. Students who do not have their IDs will receive a Temp ID along with a demerit. Students with more than 3 Demerits will receive Detention.

Electronics:

  • Students must bring their Laptops charged everyday. Students who forget their laptops will call parents to bring it in.
  • Cellphones are not allowed to be used during school hours. If a student is caught with a cellphone, it will be confiscated and held at the front office until the end of the day where a parent (Guardian) must pick it up.
