Hello Aviators!
Thank you for an excellent take-off to our first week of the school year! For the first time in YES Prep Hobby's history, we have exceeded our student enrollment targets! We are excited to welcome our founding 10th-grade class, to welcome our new YSTEP program for students with special needs, to add two additional AP classes for our 10th-grade Aviators, and to continue our advanced math track for our high schoolers! We are also excited to offer Digital Media and Spanish and Mandarin Language courses for our high school Aviators. In addition, our middle school student will have the opportunity for PE, ART, or targeted intervention courses, based on student assessments and need!
We spent the first two days of school building community and school pride, learning about campus and classroom expectations, and preparing for instruction to begin this Thursday. Next week will begin our first full week of classroom instruction.
Be sure to thoroughly read this edition of family notes, and last week's, to review campus policies and expectations, information to prepare for next week, and upcoming events.
We are excited to take flight and fly high on the wings of excellence, growth, and joy! #aviatorsascendBest,
Ms. Brown
Monday, September 4th - Holiday No school
Arrival:
Starting Monday, August 21st, Aviators who arrive to their 1st period class after 8:30am will receive a "late to school" demerit. Just like other behaviors, if a student receives this demerit 3 times they will receive a detention.
As a reminder, breakfast is free for all students and is served until 8:30 AM. Please ensure your student is at school with plenty of time to eat first and get to their first period class on time so we can start each day strong.
Arrival/Dismissal
Families, we appreciate your patience and grace as we navigate our traffic patterns with increased enrollment for our campus. Please note that morning drop off begins at 8:05 AM. Please do not drop your student off prior to this time. Also, be you join the carpool line from Hansen and do not cut off other vehicles in line as this is a safety concern. Please also be sure students are dropped off inside of our campus gates as traffic on Hansen and Tallyho is dangerous for walkers. We will make adjustments as needed to ensure our families can safely and quickly drop off their students in the morning.
Uniform
Thank you to all of our families who have supported our Aviators in coming to school in proper uniform. We believe that our school uniform policy creates a sense of unity and builds community amongst our Aviators. On Mondays, we want our students and staff to start the week strong. Each Monday, we require our staff to dress professionally, and our students to wear a polo with uniform approved pants. For students, this could be their YES Prep assigned polo (with or without a logo), or any polo in our school colors with no logo. If there is no school on Monday, students can wear the normal Tuesday dress expectations (spirit shirt or polo) on the first day of the week. Students must be in dress code to attend class.
Bus
Hobby has added another bus to our bus routes! We are excited to offer bus transportation for all of our Aviators! As we have seen an increased demand, we have been given an additional bus to help ensure our Aviators can be transported safely to and from campus. We have added bus 6 which will service the following stops:
- Golfcrest Elementary,
- Cullen Blvd & Wenda St.,
- 11419 Roandale Dr.
- 6243 El Cobre Dr.
If there any additional adjustments, we will communicate those via email and social media post.
Fluency Testing
Aviators in 6th and 7th grade began their Beginning-of-Year Fluency Testing this week! This oral reading exam, along with STAAR Reading score, helps us ensure that students are placed into the correct Reading Intervention placement. Expect that your Aviator might have a schedule change once BOY testing is complete to place students into the correct courses. Continue to remind your students to show up and model GROWTH as they embark on the Fluency Test journey over the next week!
Families,
please be sure to complete your annual student enrollment forms in Skyward. These forms are required for new AND returning families. Please log into Skyward to complete these forms. If you are unable to log into Skyward please contact the front office for assistance. If you need help with this, please contact our registrar Ms. Johnson at kaylan.johnsonsennet@yesprep.org
Supply List 2023-2024
To set your Aviator up for academic success, the attached school supply list is provided here. This list is for general campus-wide supplies students will need. Please note that teachers can ask for students to bring class-specific supplies within the first week. That information will be provided directly by your student's teacher.
Cell Phones & Personal Devices
Students do not need to bring a cell phone to school to be successful in their learning. During school hours, all student cell phones must be turned off to maximize student learning and focus. All our students can use the front office phone if needed for emergencies. Phones and headphones/earbuds need to be completely invisible and put away once students enter the building. Students who have their phones out without permission (or headphones/earbuds) during the school day will receive a detention. Continual non-compliance with our cell phone policy will result in additional escalated consequences up to and including an administrator collecting the phone. If a phone is collected, a parent/guardian will be notified, and the phone can be picked up at the end of the day from the front office. If a cell phone is turned in to the front office multiple times, a guardian will need to meet with a school administrator to collect the phone. Please discuss this expectation with your student.
Dress Code Policy
Lunch Time Expectations
Students at YES Prep Hobby will eat lunch in the cafeteria or another location designated by an administrator. Students are expected to remain in the designated lunch location for the duration of lunch, and they should not linger in the hallways, bathrooms, or in empty classrooms.
A guardian, or an adult listed as an emergency contact, may eat lunch with their student, in a location approved by a campus administrator, if a valid photo ID is presented and they are listed on the student’s record. A guardian is the only individual who may provide food for their specific student. Food will not be accepted from non-guardian deliveries (e.g. Uber Eats, Dominos), and students/guardians are not allowed to order food for delivery, as deliveries will be turned away.
A guardian should only bring food for their student if they are planning to eat lunch with their student. Students who do not have lunch or forget their lunch will be able to receive a free lunch from our food services provider.
Students who are caught sharing food with other students will receive a demerit. Additionally, students may not remove food from the cafeteria following lunch.
Dropping off Items for Students
Parents and guardians may leave items for students at the front desk any time before 10:00 AM. The front office will not accept items after 10:00 AM, except in the case of an emergency (ex: medicine, clean clothes). Students who forget their lunch at home have the option to eat free at school. Items must be labeled with the student’s full name and grade level to ensure they are delivered to the correct student. Examples of items that can be left at the front desk are athletic clothes/uniforms, lunch boxes, water bottles, homework, or other small, personal items. Food will not be accepted from non-guardian deliveries (e.g. Uber Eats, Dominos), and students/guardians are not allowed to order food for delivery as deliveries will be turned away.
Families if you require transportation for this school year our bus routes have been released, please click here . If you are in need of an additional route please contact the front office to make your request.
