Aviator Mock Election: November 5th

We are excited to have the opportunity for our Aviator students to see Democracy in action. During culture block on Tuesday, November 5th, students will be walked by squad room (or tutorial group) to cast their vote in our Mock Presidential Election. At the end of the day on Tuesday, we will have a whole school call from 3:50 – 4:00pm to review the outcome of our mock election. The key objective is for students to understand how the voting process works, and encourage them early that their voice matters! Below are the expectations of support from staff:

  • Students have the right to a private vote- they are not expected to share their vote with anyone.
  • Students have the choice to vote- they will not be required to vote if they do not want to participate in the mock election.
  • Staff members should not tell students who they plan to vote for, or try to sway a students vote in any way. We encourage students to research the candidates and discuss their vote with friends or family.
  • Students must have their student ID on and visible in order to vote.
  • Please reach out to Ms. Peck if you have any questions about this mock election.

Common Assessments:

We are just ONE week away from Fall Common Assessments, Aviator Families!

Students will engage in at least 4 exams the week of November 11th – 14th for STAAR and AP tested courses. Testing is for all grade levels. Results from these assessments are used to determine future tutorials, interventions, and identify areas for celebrations!

Common Assessments are created to ensure Aviators are getting ample opportunities to show what they know in preparation for Spring STAAR exams.

We need YOU to help our Aviators succeed!

  • Ensure that students arrive to campus on time every day.
  • Make sure students are well-rested the night before CA exams.
  • Be sure your Aviator has their laptop and charger so they can successfully engage in exams.
  • Students cannot be picked up early on CA days to avoid disruption and a positive testing environment.

Student Support Counselor- Transition

This week, Ms. Perez will be transitioning out of the role of Middle School SSC. We will miss her dearly, but will be welcoming Ms. Yarbrough, an experienced SSC transitioning from a different YES Prep Campus.

We wish Ms. Perez the best in her next adventures.

We will introduce Ms. Yarbrough at our next family meeting!

You can always report concerns to the school and our SSC team by completing a SAF: https://purpleyesprep.my.site.com/saf/s/?language=en_US

Vaccinations:

Families, we are excited to partner with Walgreens to bring free flu and COVID vaccines to our campus!

For families that are interested, please fill out the consent form and send with your student on Monday, November 4th. Additionally, please also complete the sign up for your student to sign up for an available time slot.

Attendance:

Families, attendance is important to the success of your student in the classroom so that we can continue to ascend and grow!  To encourage strong attendance, we are starting our next incentive, which will impact squads. Students in squads with 100% attendance will color in a letter and once “Aviators” is spelled out they earn a prize. First prize is squad donuts. We will update on social media weekly the status of this competition!
