Attendance for Next week:

Families, our last day of school for the semester is Wednesday, December 20th. We are excited to see our Aviators next week, finishing their course exams, submitting work for final grades and engaging in our field trips on Wednesday! Please be sure your student is on campus by 8:30 AM each day so that they are able to finish the semester strong!

Makeups and Increased Opportunities for Mastery

Aviator Families, next week is the final week before the end of Semester 1! Your Aviators have been working hard all year, but there’s still time for your student(s) to show growth. If your student has missing assignments or any grade under a 70, they are given multiple opportunities to make up work or show mastery through additional practice. Connect with your Aviator and check their Skyward to see updated grades! If your student is at risk of failing for the Quarter or Semester, you should have received at least 2 phone calls from the teacher of record for the failing course. Please reach out to your Grade Level Chairs or directly to teachers of record if you want to learn about class-specific opportunities for make-ups or increased mastery. There’s still time!

Food Over Holiday Break:

Attention Aviator Families: As Winter Break approaches, we understand that you or someone you know may have difficulty with food over the long break. Thankfully, our campus has partnered up with Houston Food Bank's Backpack Buddies program. If you haven't signed up already and are in need of food, please stop by the front office December 18th-20th to pick up food. It's quick and easy to sign up! After your student returns from break, they will also be sent home with a bag of food every Friday.

Dress Code:

Our dress code policy allows us to increase school spirit and work to remove unnecessary distractions from the classroom. Students out of dress code must correct their dress code before being able to return to class. Below are some additional steps we take to support students to be in correct uniform:

  •  Students who come out of uniform spirit shirts are able to trade a cell phone or airpods to borrow a school shirt.
  • Students in sweatpants/athletic wear or crocs/slides must call home for a change of clothes.
  • Outerwear that is out of uniform will be collected from students at the beginning of the day and returned before dismissal.
  • We are working to do another round of purchases for Hobby Crewneck Sweaters. We will include information on how to order in the coming weeks.
  •  If there are spirit days, or opportunities for students to wear clothes out of our daily dress expectations, we will update on Social Media and through Family Notes.
  • If students earn free dress for attendance or other incentives, they will have a wristband to wear the day it is earned.
  • Please help ensure your student is meeting dress code expectations each day, and reach out to the Front Office or Ms. Peck if you have any questions regarding the policy.

Student Spirit Day:

In addition to field trips to end the semester strong, we invite all students to participate in our Spirit Day themes. Starting Tuesday, December 5th, students can choose to participate in that day’s theme dress and earn squad points!

Please note: students should NOT wear athletic wear/sweatpants/leggings or crocs/slides on any day except for Monday, December 18th (Pajama day). Students who are out of dress code or not following the theme will be expected to call home for a change of clothes.

Advising Session:

Attention all parents and guardians! We are thrilled to announce that our 10th-grade students have successfully completed their advising sessions with the esteemed College Initiatives team. Now is a great time to start a conversation with your student about their post-high school plans. Encourage them to think critically about their future and explore all the opportunities available to them. Let's work together to ensure their success and bright future!

Refer a family

Families, we are taking applications for the 2024-2025 school year! Hobby Secondary is looking to add to our campus and we need your help! Do you know any families that would be great additions to the Aviator community? Refer them and you will receive some swag!

As semester one comes to an end, please make sure your Aviators are on time to school everyday for the remainder of the year. Our campus attendance goal is 94.1% and currently we are at 93.4%. In order to meet our goal, we need our aviators present each day for the remainder of the month!
