FAFSA in Seminar
Amanda Jolivet, Director of College Readiness
The ability to afford college is ranked as students’ highest concern about continuing their education. In addition to applying for scholarships in Senior Seminar, all seniors will have the opportunity to complete their financial aid applications in class with the help of their college counselor. Completing either the FAFSA or TASFA financial aid application is the only way for students to be considered for federal and/or state financial aid. Applying for financial aid is also a Texas graduation requirement.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) officially opened on October 1st for students enrolling in college for the 23-24 academic year. Students will complete either the FAFSA or the TASFA based on eligibility requirements. Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents will complete the FAFSA and students who are ineligible to apply for the FAFSA but have lived in Texas for at least 36 consecutive months will complete the TASFA. Both applications will require students to provide parent tax documents, proof of income and assets, along with other information. Please reach out to your students’ college counselor with questions around documents that may be asked of you to support your students in completing their applications for financial aid.
